As Lagos residents look forward to the anticipated local government election across the state, the State Police Command has announced restrictions on movement within the state to ensure adequate security measures for the citizens.
Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos State Police PRO, announced that movement will be restricted from 3 am to 3 pm on June 12, 2025, across all 20 local governments and 37 LCDAs in the state.
Participating political parties are concluding their council election campaigns today, in line with LASIEC guidelines that set campaign dates from April 18th to July 9th, 2025.
Mr. Hundeyin said the decision was reached after a series of consultative meetings and agreements between the state police force and other members of the committee on election security, including other critical stakeholders in the election, to provide adequate safety for the electoral body, the other frontliners, and the residents of the state.
The statement also noted that security operatives on election duty must follow the electoral law, which prohibits the presence of armed escorts and security aides in polling units and collation centres to avoid intimidation and influence on the electorate. He also upheld the prohibition of security escorts using sirens on election day.
However, exemptions have been granted to certain professionals, such as medical emergency responders, accredited LASIEC officials, election observers, and media for official election coverage.
