CLAIM: Video showing a church in northern Nigeria allegedly set on fire by Islamic terrorists
VERDICT: False. The video is from Ghana, not Nigeria.
FULL STORY
A video has surfaced on social media with the claim that it shows a church building in northern Nigeria that was set on fire by Islamic terrorists. A TikTok account ‘wakawakaplanet’ posted the 30-second video with the caption “Another church burned down by Islamic brotherhood in northern Nigeria”
In the 24-second-long video posted on the 2nd of November 2025, a burning storey building can be seen, with people in white, green, and black outfits that look like a uniform, trying to pack their belongings. There’s no voice in the video as another song, “Nigeria jagajaga” by Nigerian artist Eedris Abdulkareem, is added to the video. It has since attracted over 70,000 views, more than 1000 likes and 101 comments and more than 150 shares.
Some of the comments read:
“My goodness…this is bad, but at least they are suffering for Christ…” “There is Christian genocide taking place in Nigeria. Trump needs to intervene; terrible things are happening there”

This claim follows US President Donald Trump’s recent statement about an ongoing Christian genocide in Nigeria. Multiple incidents have been reported in Nigeria, including an attack on a church in Kwara State and the abduction of students from a Catholic school in Niger State.
However, analysis conducted by NDRFactCheck indicates that the claim is inaccurate. Key frames from the video were verified through Google reverse image search, which revealed that the video first appeared online on October 31, 2025. It was subsequently posted on YouTube here, Facebook here, and TikTok here.
Additional reports confirm that the widely circulated video depicts a fire incident at Kwapong Nursing Training College, located in the Asuanfo South District of Ghana’s Ahafo region. The fire affected the female dormitory, and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
According to media reports, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) received a distress call at 7:12 a.m., prompting the Kukuom fire crew to arrive on scene by 7:30 a.m. Later, reinforcements from the Goaso Municipal Fire Station joined them, and together the two teams managed to bring the fire under control by 8:45 a.m. The blaze was fully extinguished at 10:26 a.m.

CONCLUSION
The assertion that the video depicts a church in northern Nigeria being set ablaze by Islamic terrorists is incorrect; investigations have established that the footage originates from a fire incident in Ghana. The public is encouraged to verify information before disseminating it, particularly during this period in the country.
