Claim:

The Federal Government’s N50,000 Child Support Fund for All Nigerian Parents is ongoing.

Verdict: False

Full story:
An article being circulated via WhatsApp and and other social media platforms, specifically on ndlea-recrutment-portal-2024-svblogspot.com,claiming that the Federal Government is offering a N50,000 Child Support Fund for all Nigerian parents.

The post was sequel to series of complaints by Nigerian parents on the high cost of feeding their children, stating that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Betta C. Edu to open the child support scheme. The post also urged Nigerian parents to receive the sum of ₦50,000 for 6 months.

The purported circulated message reads: “Are You A Mother or Father in Nigeria Apply Now For Federal Government ₦50,000 CHILD SUPPORT Cash Transfer

APPLY NOWhttps://tr.ee/Child-Support-Portal-2024N.B: SHARE WITH OTHER PARENTS LET THEM ALL BENEFIT FROM THE CHILD SUPPORT.”

Upon investigation, the application form on the aforementioned website is experiencing a rapid increase in views, accompanied by 70k comments, 229k likes, and 57k shares. Also, on the application form, there is a column provided for individuals to fill in their bank details. The comments section reflects predominantly positive responses, suggesting that the Federal Government is performing admirably. The details of the form can be viewed here

The verification of this claim was prompted by the positive response it elicited in the comments section and it’s most essential because Sandra Jacob, one of the commenters, mentioned President Tinubu and the APC party.

These statements are capable of misleading some parents into becoming victims of what appears to be genuine comments. Additionally, the application form requesting account details could lead to identity theft, financial fraud, and unauthorised access to personal information and funds. Scammers could also use the information to access victims’ accounts for fraudulent activities.

Verification

To validate the authenticity of the website attached with this claim, we reached out to some IT experts including Mr. Alabi Michael, an IT analyst working at Jackson, Etti&Edu, a top law firm in Lagos., via phone call. He clarified that any website bearing a _.blog.com_ domain and purporting to represent the federal government is fraudulent.

He added that the claimed website mirrored a recruitment portal, while what it was meant for was “A Child Support Fund.” With this proof: _ndlea-recruitment-portal-2024-sv.blogspot.com_

A legitimate Federal Government website will consistently employ the use of a .gov.ng domain extension. Mr. Michael further emphasized that the mentioned site is counterfeit and poses a risk, as hackers could exploit it to replicate victims’ bank information.

To verify our findings further, we conducted a Google search and discovered that The Guardian’s online edition on November 20, 2023, reported the news as false. Additionally, TVC News Nigeria, on the same date, corroborated that the information is inaccurate.

In conclusion, the assertion made by ndlea-recrutment-portal-2024-svblogspot.com regarding the ongoing availability of the Federal Government’s #50,000 Child Support Fund for all Nigerian parents is false.
