On 15 August, Facebook user Tijani Ibn Mustapha (@MrAfobaje) claimed that Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s campaign committee, met with 30 INEC officials and gave each ₦10 million.

In his tweet, he wrote, “Accord is giving 40k per vote.

Pelumi [Adeleke’s Aide] met with INEC 30 officers yesterday and gave them 10m each….. a friend of mine disguised himself and joined the meeting.

All their plans will fail today.”

The 2026 Osun governorship election off-cycle is ongoing, and allegations of vote buying, voter inducement, and attempts to influence election officials are common narratives among political actors.

Verification

We contacted Mr Musa Olurode, public relations officer of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), by phone. He said the commission cannot be compromised or bought.

He added that the claim was false and described it as a mischievous political tactic intended to inflame tensions.

Conclusion

The INEC PRO has denied the bribery claim, and no concrete evidence supports even voter bribery during voting.
