Claim: A viral post circulating online claims that the Police are making arrests across the state.

Full Text
Since the early hours of Saturday, August 15, 2026, social media has been flooded with reports alleging that thugs and impostors hired to vote in the election had been arrested. The claims came from several parties involved in the election, especially supporters of the APC and Accord parties. One such false post claimed that the Nigeria Police had made arrests.
These posts are found here and here, claiming that the Nigerian police have arrested an appointee of Governor Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the Accord Party in the ongoing election in Osun State.
The post was found today, 15th August, 2026, and read “BREAKING NEWS
Police Arrested Governor Adeleke’s Appointee Bank Omisore and some Political Thugs in Ile-Ife.”
Another post by The Status Online claimed that 33 people were arrested overnight at Babs Hotel in Ede, the hometown of Governor Ademola Adeleke. It alleged that the suspects told police they were ineligible voters brought in from Ekiti and Ondo states.
Because of the seriousness of these claims and the officials named, NDRFactcheck reviewed two of the reports.
Verification
In an interview with Channel Television, Mr. Erale Samuel Etaifo, the Police Commissioner in charge of the 2026 Osun election, stated that the police have not made any arrests so far on election day.
“No arrests have been made today (so far) as a result of electoral violence.”
Conclusion
The widespread social media claims are false, according to confirmation from the Nigeria Police in Osun State.
