INEC debunks rumours of electoral malpractices

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked rumours of electoral malpractices in the ongoing governorship and state assembly polls across the country. According to tweets shared via the Commission’s Twitter page, it urged Nigerians to verify reports before confirming it as true. The Commission confirmed as false, reports that security agents in Polling Unit:

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked rumours of electoral malpractices in the ongoing governorship and state assembly polls across the country.

According to tweets shared via the Commission’s Twitter page, it urged Nigerians to verify reports before confirming it as true.

The Commission confirmed as false, reports that security agents in Polling Unit: 018, Kwara/Ilorin threaten to boycott elections if party agents don’t give them money.

It confirmed that materials were not hijacked at Ikon Akata and Esa Ekpo villages, Mkpatenin, Akwa Ibom state. Also, no Adhoc staff at Ward 8, Oredo, Edo was caught giving an INEC stamp to the ward Chairman of a political party

Earlier reports of simultaneous accreditation and voting in 31/05/07/028 Jos North, Plateau state was also confirmed false. The report about hijacking of result sheets in Ibiono Ibom, Akwa Ibom: 03/11/10/002 has been investigated and confirmed false.

Generally, the Commission asserted that reports about fake result sheets and ballot papers provided at Polling Units are false. INEC produced the materials and guarantees its authenticity.

It urged Nigerians to tweet at it’s Twitter handle: @inecnigeria about incidents at their Polling Unit complete with Polling Unit code, state and local government area and efforts will be made to track the reports.
