With many identified challenges ranging from political interference, ownership interference, monetary inducement, partisan politicking and other sundry issues faced by the broadcast media in Nigeria, practitioners have been charged on the need to maintain professionalism in order to sustain the integrity of the media and also deliver on its statutory roles to the masses.
This call was unanimously made by different speakers in Abuja last Wednesday at a two day workshop organised by the Radio Television Theatre and Art Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to train broadcast practitioners on their roles in the forth- coming elections.
In his address to the participants drawn from the North-East and North-West of the country, the president of RATTAWU, Dr Yemisi Bamgbose explained that the primary objective of the seminar was to make sure media practitioners engage politicians positively and work with the lay down tenets of regulatory agencies.
