Three aspirants will take the centre stage today selling their manifestoes to about 2,100 delegates as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State holds its governorship primaries.
The delegates made up of 1,585 (statutory), and 547 (national ad-hoc committee) will determine the fate of the three contenders namely Dr Kolapo Eleka, the Deputy Governor, Senator Abiodun Olujimi representing Ekiti South Senatorial District and Prince Dayo Adeyeye, the immediate past National Publicity Secretary of the party.
The delegates have emerged from the 16 local government areas of the state. The exercise is being supervised by a committee headed by Senator Okowa of Delta State.There has been a lot of controversy leading to the acceptance of the three candidates to allow the process to go on. The give and take saw to the removal of staff of the state government from the delegates list.
Governor Ayodele Fayose stirred the hornet’s nest with his early endorsement of his deputy as his candidate for the party which was rejected by other aspirants.
The National headquarters of the party had to intervene allaying the fears of all the aspirants who in turn have given an undertaken to accept the outcome of the exercise
Ekiti state governorship election has been fixed for July 14 2018.
The main opposition party in Ekiti state held its governorship primaries at the weekend. Thirty-three aspirants participated in it but the process remains inconclusive as it was disrupted by hoodlums midway into voting.
