On 14 August 2026, NDRFactcheck found a trending Facebook post shared by several users here and here that had attracted many reshares and comments.

The post claims that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State is swapping the list of original polling unit officers and ad-hoc staff with names of people who were neither trained nor shortlisted.

It further states that trained Presiding Officers and Assistant Presiding Officers in Egbedore, Atakunmosa East, and Atakunmosa West Local Government Areas were replaced with unknown individuals who did not attend INEC training.

Part of the quote reads “the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State is swapping the list of original polling unit officers and ad-hoc staff with names of people that were neither trained nor shortlisted.”

During elections, social media is often flooded with claims and counterclaims about electoral integrity, and Osun State is no exception.

Therefore, we conducted a verification.

Verification

Through a telephone call, our researcher reached the Osun State Public Relations Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr Musa Olurode, who confirmed that the distribution of adhoc staff and officers across the state had begun.

He dismissed the circulating post, describing it as an attempt to undermine the commission’s process and efforts.

Olurode urged citizens to remain confident that INEC would conduct a credible and unbiased election.
