After the presentation of certificates, the National Collation Centre,(NCC)Abuja where results of Saturday, February 25 Presidential election were collated was formally closed down. It was declared open on Sunday, February 26, this year.
At 3:45 pm , shortly after elected House of Representatives members were given their certificates, an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was told by the company employed for the interior decoration, audio and electrical fittings at the NCC that the company has shut -down.
Security personnel had a hectic time controlling the huge crowd of supporters of politicians who wanted to witness the occasion.
A breakdown of the composition of the new House of Representatives shows that the All Progressives Congress (APC) got 162 seats, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won 102 seats,Labour Party (LP) got 34 seats and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) won 18 seats.
Other parties that would be represented at the 10th Assembly include All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) with four seats, African Democratic Congress (ADC), Social Democratic Party (SDP) two seats and Young Progressive Party (YPP) with a seat.
However, the House of Representatives, just like the Upper chamber, the Senate, is male dominated. Out of the 325 seats so far declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) only 11 females made it to the House. This is a drop from the 13 women that graced the chamber in the 9th Assembly.
At the presentation of certificate’s ceremony, not all who were successful at the polls came to collect their Certificates. INEC Director, Voter Education, Mr. Victor Aluko was quick to remind those who were absent to come to the Commission’s headquarters to collect their Certificates.
National Commissioners of the Commission presented Certificates of Return to the members elected as the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu who was in attendance did not say a word throughout the ceremony.
Mr. Victor Aluko, Director, INEC’s Voter Education announced that members – elect that failed to collect their Certificates should come to the INEC headquarters for it.
INEC would still conduct supplementary election to fill the remaining seats and address the case of a Federal constituency where election result was declared under duress and wait for the courts to adjudicate on three cases in court.
