In the build-up to 2015 elections, the International Press Centre (IPC), Lagos is organizing a two-day media workshop for journalists in the North West on Wednesday, September 24 and Thursday, September 25, 2014.

The workshop with the theme “Professional, conflict sensitive, public interest and gender-supportive reporting of 2015 elections” is under the project “Media Capacity Building, Mentoring and Monitoring for Conflict-Sensitive, Public-Issue and ICT-Driven Reporting of 2015 Elections” supported by the Democratic Governance for Development Programme of the UNDP and its international partners including the EU.

According to Mr. Lanre Arogundade, Director of IPC, the specific objective of the workshop is to train journalists on how they should report elections in a manner that is professional, conflict-sensitive, public interest-based and gender-supportive.

He further said that participants at the workshop will include twenty five middle and senior career female and male journalists from the print and broadcast media in the seven north-western states of Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Jigawa and Zamfara.

He added that the workshop would feature presentations and discussions on pitched political and election related story ideas written by the participants which would be discussed during the story clinic and facilitated by the resource persons on the last day of the workshop.

The centre held the South West zonal workshop last week in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State where 30 print and broadcast journalists were trained.
