Shortly after the United States issued a new security warning to the Nigerian government regarding potential terrorist activity and rising crime, the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Miller G. Dantawaye, announced increased law enforcement operations across Abuja and nearby areas.
According to a statement released by the FCT Police Command on Sunday via its X handle, CP Dantawaye instructed all tactical and surveillance units from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Police Mobile Force (PMF), and Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) to work together with the Department of Operations and all Divisional Police Formations to conduct an operation across the territory.
The operation is designed to identify, remove, and apprehend individuals engaged in criminal activities within all areas of the capital. The police state that the primary objectives are to reclaim public spaces, enhance residents’ sense of security, and build upon the successes of prior anti-crime initiatives.
The police command said the operation will begin in November 2025 and will run until January 2026, marking one of the most extensive security responses in recent years. The directive, according to police authorities, is part of renewed efforts to flush out criminal elements and maintain the peace currently being enjoyed by residents of the FCT amid growing concerns over security threats.
The FCT Commissioner of Police stated, “The operation will be carried out with intensity, consistency, and professionalism. The objective is to address criminal activity in the FCT and promote safety within communities, roads, and recreational spaces.”
The Commissioner warned all officers and men deployed for the assignment to take the exercise seriously, stressing that no act of misconduct, corruption, or abuse of power would be tolerated. He reminded personnel that while the operation would be vigorous, it must also be carried out with full respect for human rights and adherence to police ethics.
“Every officer must uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and professionalism,” Dantawaye said. “We cannot afford any lapse or unprofessional conduct. The safety of the residents is our priority, but it must be achieved within the framework of the law.”
He also urged residents to cooperate fully with police personnel during the operation, emphasising that community support and timely information are crucial to achieving lasting security. “Security is a shared responsibility; we call on members of the public to remain alert, vigilant, and report suspicious movements or activities in their neighbourhoods to the nearest police station.”
However, the FCT Police Command has, in recent months, been scaling up intelligence-led operations around border communities, satellite towns, and entry routes into Abuja. Areas such as Gwagwalada, Kuje, Bwari, and Abaji have witnessed increased surveillance following reports of criminal infiltration.
As the operation continued into early 2026, the FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property while deepening public trust through transparency and collaboration.
“Our mission is clear– to make Abuja safer and more secure for all. We will sustain this tempo until every criminal hideout is cleared, and every resident can sleep with both eyes closed.”
