On Friday, 22nd, 2025, NDRFactcheck found a video with the ‘forwarded’ icon circulating on WhatsApp.
.In the video, four men were captured, blindfolded and beaten by some group of armed men, with the caption “The boys who raided Eruku have been apprehended by the relentless vigilantes of the town. Because they laid an ambush for the vigilantes and lost two men whose bodies have not been found, they retreated and reinforced themselves. But the bandits now wanted to carry their wounded members to the town when they were caught, because they laid an ambush on all the roads leading to the town.”
It will be recalled that some days ago, there was a bandit attack invading a church in the Eruku community in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, where two people were killed, and others abducted while having a night programme.
This incident has gathered a lot of attention, and there have been videos flying around claiming that local vigilantes in the community have captured the perpetrators of the incident.
Is this true? NDRFactcheck conducted a check.
Verification:
A Google reverse image search was conducted, and we found out that this image was posted by a local news blog in Kwara State called ‘Kwara Eaglet NG’ over two months ago, on September 15th, 2025, in connection with the disappearance of two people.

The public has been warned to disregard it, as no arrests have been made yet in connection with the attack. Therefore, it is false.
Twenty-four hours later, those abducted from the Church were rescued from their abductors and returned to their community.
