CLAIM: A viral post on social media alleges that pro-Biafra agitators are gradually taking over Anambra state.
VERDICT: Misleading. The protest was against increasing insecurity and kidnappings in the state, not in support of Biafra.
FULL STORY
A claim circulating on social media alleges that individuals identifying as pro-Biafra agitators are increasingly exerting influence in Anambra State. These posts feature a video of a woman speaking to an audience, accompanied by captions asserting that Biafrans are progressively taking control of the region and connecting the event to separatist activities.
An X user, @Ngoziora, a self-acclaimed Deputy Minister of the “United States of Biafra,” posted the video with a caption that reads,
“Breaking: Biafrans gradually taken over their state in Ikemba. United States of Biafra USB is a Sovereign state, and the delegitimised governors must leave Biafraland. Soludo should peacefully leave Biafraland. The People are rising and coming.”
In a video lasting 2 minutes and 36 seconds, a woman is seen in front of ‘Lighthouse’, the state government house, using a megaphone to address a group by stating, “the lives of every citizen should be valued. Everybody deserves to be seen as valuable.” Two individuals are also present, holding a banner that reads, “Stop the Kidnapping. Stop the killing. Justice for Emmanuel. Soludo, secure Anambra now.”
The post has received 18,000 views, 700+ likes, and 500+ shares.
This is coming at a period of the build-up to the state governorship election coming up on the 25th of November 2025.

Checks by NDR FactHub show that this claim is false.
A reverse image search of the video’s keyframes identified the woman featured as Chioma Ifemeludike, the AAC governorship candidate for the forthcoming Anambra State gubernatorial election. Within the video, she also confirmed her identity by stating her name and acknowledging her candidacy.
Additional internet search revealed that the video was also uploaded on Facebook by a page, ‘Anambra with the caption, “AAC candidate, Comrade Chioma Ifemeludike takes protest to Anambra State Government House”
On August 18, 2025, the AAC governorship candidate Chioma Ifemeludike led a protest at the Anambra State Government House in Awka, joined by community members and civil society groups, to highlight rising insecurity, particularly kidnappings and killings, after the murder of Emmanuel Chinecherem Igwe, a minor who was kidnapped and killed.
Eyewitness accounts and media reports from the event confirm that demonstrators carried placards demanding government intervention and security reforms. None of the materials, speeches, or banners referenced Biafra or separatist agitation. Instead, the focus was on condemning the unsafe conditions in Anambra and urging authorities to act.
Labelling the event as “pro-Biafra” seems intended to undermine the candidate and protest by linking them to sensitive separatist issues.
CONCLUSION The Anambra AAC governorship candidate neither led nor organised a pro-Biafra protest; the event opposed insecurity and kidnappings. Linking the video to separatist agitation is false and misleading.
