A search by NDR researcher also revealed that an X user, @Gen Buhar with over 25k followers posted the message on Saturday 13th April. At the time of investigating the message, it had garnered 718k views, 1,064 retweets, 4,713 likes, and 278 quotes.

“FG To Take Over Salary Payment From The State Governor’s. And Rename All Nigeria Workers as Nigerians Civil Servants both state,LG and FG should be using IPPIS.  This will allow the Governor’s to be using their monthly Allocation to develop their state…..NAN”.

The  X user  went further saying that,

“This is the renewed hope I voted for, this reform will put a stop to looting of local government allocations by these self appointed “emperors”, state citizens can now hold their governors accountable, this is innovative and heart warming”.

There have been reactions to this claim which have prompted NDR to investigate its veracity.

X user @XBrianDennis wrote “Federal government should be getting more decentralized and allocating more responsibilities and resources to states so they can develop not taking away their responsibilities”. It was also seen that the X user said that if the Federal Government is going to handle salary payment, does this mean the Federal Government is going to handle state recruitments into civil service?

Another user,  @ambitiousgonner also dismissed the claim stating “I hope this has been carefully considered or is simply fake news.”

@indulge_tweets believe it the the right way to go ‘If this news is true, then its a right direction’

Due to these contradicting comments, the researcher decided to verify the claim if the Federal Government is taking over salary payment from the State Governors.

Verification:

In verifying this message, the researcher used the Yandex search engine and found a publication of 22nd March, 2024  by spectacle.com with the headline “Fed Govt to Take Over Salary Payments Burden Away From State Governors”.

Furthermore, reading through the news published by Spectacle we discovered that it was a suggestion proposed by one Bala Sesaughter.

In the finding it was also revealed that Bala Sesaughter was proposing due to the fact that workers have been facing state governors’ failure to implement the current minimum wage approved by the administration of former president Muhammadu BUHARI in 2019.

Bala Sesaughter’s detailed suggestions are as follows:

“Federal government to take over salary payments burden away from state governors. Abolish state civil servants and local government civil servants. Renames it Nigerian civil servants.

Have a unified salary structure.

Hence, to corroborate the above finding, we searched for a possible publication of this same news from verified Nigeria newspapers since there was no press release.

Conclusion:

The viral messages saying that Federal Government To Take Over Salary Payment From The State Governors is misleading
