Claim:
A social media user claimed that “All the people that voted for Tinubu are now running like headless chickens on their knees begging Peter Obi to vote for him come 2027.”
Verdict: False. The image accompanying the claim also exhibits characteristics consistent with AI-generated content and does not support the assertion.
Full Story
As Nigeria’s 2027 general election approaches, social media narratives seeking to influence public opinion have become increasingly common.
Recent surveys have intensified political debate. In May 2026, Eagle Badger Data Analytics reported that President Bola Tinubu’s approval rating had fallen to 32 percent, with many respondents citing concerns about the economy, unemployment, and insecurity.
In response, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) argued that the survey reflected rising dissatisfaction with the Tinubu administration and renewed calls for political change.
Meanwhile, Peter Obi, who emerged as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate in May 2026, continues to draw support from voters and commentators who view him as a credible alternative for the 2027 election.
Against this backdrop, a social media user posted a message claiming that all those who voted for President Tinubu in 2023 are now “running like headless chickens on their knees begging Peter Obi” ahead of the 2027 election. The post was accompanied by an image showing Peter Obi seated, with a group of people appearing to kneel before him.
See the screenshot below:
The post has attracted more than 1,700 views and numerous reactions on X (formerly Twitter).
Since the claim makes a sweeping assertion about all Tinubu supporters, it requires strong, verifiable evidence. NDRFactCheck investigated.
Verification
NDRFactCheck found no credible news reports, official statements, opinion polls, or independent studies showing that supporters of President Bola Tinubu are collectively urging or pleading with Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 election.
The accompanying image was also examined using AI image detection tools.
When analysed with QuillBot’s AI Image Detector, the image was flagged as likely AI-generated. A separate analysis using DeepAI Image Detector indicated a 93 percent probability that the image was fabricated.
Beyond the automated detection results, a visual examination revealed several characteristics commonly associated with AI-generated images:
Some faces, particularly those of individuals kneeling on the left side of the image, appear distorted or lack natural facial definition.
Two, several clasped hands appear warped or unnaturally fused—a common flaw in AI-generated imagery.
Three, the lighting, skin textures, and furniture display an unusually smooth, plastic-like appearance that is often associated with synthetic images.
Again, minor inconsistencies in body proportions and facial symmetry further call into question the image’s authenticity.
While these observations and detector results indicate the image is likely AI-generated, they do not conclusively prove its origin, especially because only a screenshot—not the original image—was available for analysis.
Even if the image were genuine, it would not prove the claim. It does not identify the people shown, show how they voted in 2023, or establish that they were pleading with Peter Obi about the 2027 presidential election.
Verdict:
There is no evidence that Nigerians who voted for President Bola Tinubu in 2023 are now pleading with Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 election. AI detection tools flagged the accompanying image as likely fabricated, and even if authentic, it does not support the political claim linked to it.
