Claim: An X user Citizen Observer, tweeted on his handle that the Yoruba have Dethroned the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari and installed a Yoruba Oba.

A tweet from the X app (twitter) by one its user @CitizenObs on February 6th, 2024 posted that the Yoruba have dethroned the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari and installed a Yoruba Oba, also went ahead to say that the Oba is heavily guarded by soldiers after assuming the position of the traditional ruler of Ilorin.

The tweep is seen through his profile to be a journalist have seen the post to have gathered 70.8k views, 338

Reposts, 53 Quotes, 539Likes and 289 comments.

The reason to check the veracity of the claim is as a result of the doubt from the comments and quotes seen from other curious X users who want to know if it is fake or true.  Reactions like ‘Some confirm this news’ from @Major_1118 and here among other doubts.

Hence, verification was made.

Verification: To check the validity of the claim made, NDR reached out to the Ministry of Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs of Kwara State through a telephone conversation where staff Mr. Sodiq Oloyinbo, who was not willing to give out his portfolio, spoke with us debunking the post to be fake and that there is nothing like that, he also let us know that the Emir himself has come out to speak against it too.

Furthermore,  NDR moved to get to the Emir’s palace to speak on this claim, we got a phone contact from the website of the Emirate Ilorin Emirate Durbar, reaching out via a telephone conversation it was also confirmed that the post was not true, the contact who wasn’t ready to give out his name and position insisted on being anonymous confirmed that so far his contact is gotten from the website we should know he is giving out the Fact.

Thus, to balance our findings we conducted a Google search to know if any of the well-known newspapers had published the story, yet, there was nothing as such from any of them.

Conclusion: The declaration made by Citizen Observer that Emir of Ilorin has been dethroned and Yoruba Oba has been installed is FALSE.
