A statement credited to the Young Progressives Party governorship (YPP) candidate in Anambra State asserts that he is “the most educated candidate” in the coming November governorship election. Checks by NDRFactCheck show that this claim is inaccurate.

According to a Nigerian Tribune report on September 9, 2025, Young Progressives Party (YPP) governorship candidate Sir Paul Chukwuma claims he is the most academically qualified contender for the upcoming November 8 Anambra election, stating that no other candidate matches his educational background. He presented his academic qualifications, which include a first-class degree in philosophy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; a first-class degree in law from Baze University; and a distinction in his Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of Derby.

Based on the academic records available, the incumbent governor and re-election candidate, Charles Soludo, is a distinguished professor with extensive academic and professional expertise. He earned his three degrees, culminating in a professorship, from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State. Soludo graduated with First-Class Honours in 1984, followed by a Master of Science in Economics in 1987, and subsequently a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in 1989, receiving awards for best student at each academic level.

Education records found in public profiles and previous media interviews provide information regarding these candidates’ academic qualifications, which differ from the claim made by the YPP aspirant.

According to public records from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), other candidates have bachelor’s degrees from recognised institutions, and the YPP candidate has two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree.

While academic qualifications are not the only indicator of a leader’s capability, misrepresenting one’s credentials can mislead the electorate. In this instance, evidence indicates that the YPP candidate does not possess the highest level of education among the candidates.

CONCLUSION The YPP candidate’s claim is untrue; the incumbent holds advanced degrees and higher qualifications.
