Claim: On Friday morning, a viral message and video began circulating in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, alleging that a three-day sit-at-home order had been announced in Anambra State for the period of the governorship election.
Verdict: False
A viral video posted on 6 November 2025 claimed that the “Biafra Republic Government in Exile” announced a three-day sit-at-home in Anambra State before the governorship election. The video’s caption stated:
“The Biafra Republic Government in Exile Kicks against Anambra governorship election and declared a three-day sit-at-home. Watch the full video here.”
However, Ndrfactcheck’s investigation found no evidence that any sit-at-home order was issued. Instead, the Anambra State Governor, through the Head of Service, Theodore Igwegbe, announced a work-free day for all civil and public servants on 6 November 2025.
In the memo released to the public, the work-free day was approved to enable eligible workers travelling for the election to participate without hindrance. The notice did not refer to, nor alluded to, any sit-at-home directive.
Conclusion
There is no truth in the claim of a three-day sit-at-home in Anambra State, prelude to the off-cycle governorship election. The claim is, therefore, false and intended to scare voters on election day.
