CLAIM: That the Accord Party in Anambra state has adopted the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Party in the forthcoming Anambra election.
VERDICT: False. The Accord Party is still in the governorship race and has not adopted the APC candidate, nor any other candidate.
FULL STORY
A statement circulating on social media alleges that the Accord Party in Anambra State has announced its support for the All Progressives Congress and endorsed the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, for the upcoming off-cycle governorship elections in the state.
On the 27th of October 2025, a X handle @Akelicious posted a photo of few people in a procession, holding a small six=zed banner with inscriptions like Accord/APC, and attached a link carrying the published report.
Upon clicking the link, NDRFactCheck discovered that the site ‘Akelicious’ carries the same name as the X poster. The published report further claims that the delegation to the APC candidate’s residence was led by the National Deputy Chairman of the party, Hon. Igboekwe Dike Innocent.
“The visit was not just a show of support but a declaration of partnership between Accord and Prince Ukachukwu’s campaign team. We are not just supporting him; we have come to partner with him, to put in our utmost effort to ensure we take over the seat of government in Agu Awka,” Hon. Igboekwe stated in the report.

NDRFactCheck examined this claim and determined it was incorrect. The State Chairman of the Anambra Chapter of Accord Party, Prince Bartho Igwedibia, has denied the claim, describing it as political misinformation.
Igwedibia stated that the Accord Party has selected its candidate, Sir Chidi Onyeeze, following the party’s primary election held on April 8, 2025. He added that the party has not endorsed the APC candidate or any other party, and there are no current plans to do so.
“The Accord Party has its own candidate, and we are in full support of his candidacy. The party has no intention whatsoever to endorse any other candidate nor even have a meeting with them. There’s no decision to adopt the APC candidate.”
“The general public should be careful of people who may be parading themselves as officials of the party in this election period as the party won’t be responsible for any damages incurred from such transactions.”
Further checks revealed that the delegation was led by the expelled former National Vice-Chairman (South-East). Media reports state that Igboekwe, along with Rev. Isaac Adeniyi and Prince James Joseph Itiaba, were expelled from the party in 2022 for alleged indiscipline, constitutional violations, and gross misconduct.
“That the NEC meeting was well attended. That having received the report of the disciplinary committee set up by NEC to look into the expulsion of Rev. Isaac Adeniyi and Innocent Igbokwe from their various wards respectively, hereby ratified their expulsion from the party with immediate effect.
“The disciplinary committee found Prince James Joseph Itiaba guilty of gross misconduct, insubordination and breach of the party’s constitution. Therefore, NEC ratified his expulsion from the party”
The announcement was made by National Secretary Dr. Adebukola Abiola Ajaja after the party’s National Executive Committee in Abuja, following a disciplinary committee report on the allegations.
CONCLUSION
The claim that the Accord Party in Anambra state has adopted the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress is false. The party has its own candidate who is still actively contesting in the race.
