Countdown to Inauguration: Dates Emerge for Valedictory FEC Meeting, Novelty Match, Rehearsals, Others

The waiting period for the inauguration of the new administration of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is on the home-stretch as the federal government has put in place a tentative programme of activities to kick start the inauguration of both the new executive and legislative arms of government.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the countdown to May 29, the inauguration of the new government, would go into full swing on May 18, when the Federal Executive Council holds its valedictory meeting. The valedictory FEC meeting is usually an emotional event where outgoing ministers relieve their experiences and bid themselves goodbye.

There will be a mass commissioning of projects carried out by the outgoing Buhari’s administration, from May 19 and it will last through May 23, 2023. The projects will span through some key ministries and parastatals. It is being speculated that President Buhari would like to commission the Lagos-Ibadan Express road, which is now in the final stages of completion.

The president-elect recently nominated 13 notable Nigerians as members of the inauguration committee. The inauguration committee is responsible for the coordination of the events that will lead to the ushering of the new administration.

Before the public lecture, slated for May 25, some other activities like a novelty match and variety night, which will also hold. Dr. Danladi Bako, ace broadcaster has been designated by the president-elect to coordinate these tasks.

The son of former president Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Col. Abdulazeez Yar’Adua, who is serving in an acting capacity as the head of security, will be in charge of overseeing the parade practice and rehearsals scheduled for May 26.

Children’s day, universally fixed for May 27, will occupy the attention of the President-elect. The details of the children’s day activities are yet to be obtained.

The pre-inauguration dinner award night, which will be supervised by the daughter of the chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Barrister Zainab Buba Marwa, will take place on the eve of inauguration.

Inauguration proper, which will be witnessed by dignitaries from abroad and at home will take on May 29th, where the instruments of office and Oath of Office will be taken by the President-elect and his Vice-president-elect. The President-elect is expected to give an inaugural address as well as inspect a military guard of honour as the new President and Commander of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

10) 5th June – Assembly Proclamation.
