Buhari to Confer Highest National Honours on Tinubu, Shettima as Transition Winds Down

Countdown to the May 29th Inauguration ceremony, President Muhammadu Buhari will confer the highest honours of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) and Grand Commander of Order of the Niger respectively on president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the vice president-elect, Kashim Shettima on May 25th as the transition programme gets into its final phase.

Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Chairman of the Presidential Transition Council disclosed this on Thursday while stating the programmes that will precede the handover ceremony. Also on that day the transition document will also be presented as preamble to the ceremonial handover event.

The Secretary of the Federation describes the process as the most organised and seamless presidential transition in Nigerian history, in accordance with Executive Order 14, which was signed by the president earlier in February 2023.

He further noted that two days before the inauguration ceremony, which is on Saturday, 27th, May 2023, there will be an inaugural lecture titled “Deepening Democracy for Integration and Development, which will be delivered by the former President Kenya, His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta

Meanwhile, the presidential transition committee also presented the official time table for the 2023 inauguration ceremony, which includes the world press conference by the SGF today.

Other activities lined up in the timetable are “the Regimental Dinner in honour of the Commander in Chief at the Armed Forces at the Officers Mess on May 23, the Valedictory Federal Executive Council Meeting at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on May 24, Meeting Investiture of the President-Elect and Vice- President-Elect with the National Honors of Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) and Grand Commander of Order of the Niger (GCON) respectively and Handover of Transition Documents on May 25, Public Lecture and Jumaat Prayer at the National Mosque on May 26, Children’s Day Parade and Children’s Party on May, 27 Inter-denominational Church Service at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, on May 28 and Inauguration Parade/Swearing-In Post Inauguration Luncheon on May 29.”
