Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party was declared the winner of the Osun State Governorship election, with 511,067 votes, defeating fourteen candidates from other political parties.
Adeleke secured a second term by defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 444,815 votes. Dr. Najeem Salam of the African Democratic Congress finished a distant third with 17,180 votes.
Returning Officer Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole declared Governor Adeleke the winner at 7:49 am after confirming that he had met the legal requirements. Adeleke defeated runner-up Bola Oyebamiji by a clear margin of 66,252 votes.
Adeleke has set a record by defeating an incumbent governor and winning as an incumbent.
He will be sworn in for another four-year term on November 27, marking the end of one administration and the start of another elected regime. His declaration was met with wild jubilation at the collation centre and across the length and breadth of Osun State.

The results indicate that Governor Adeleke won 21 local government areas, with strong support in his hometown of Ede and in Ile Ife, where he built wide margins. Bola Oyebamiji won nine local government areas, recording his largest lead in Irewole, his home local government area.
Adeleke Speaks on Victory
Speaking on his victory at the polls, Governor Adeleke said it was a victory for democracy in Nigeria. A victory for democracy in Osun State. Highly elated, Adeleke said the people of Osun State had spoken through the ballot box and that they had achieved his “revolution” peacefully.
He said that, with the victory, the people of Osun State have said, “Thank you, Mr Governor,” for touching lives in different ways and for giving them “dividends of Democracy”.
Adeleke stated that his victory belongs to the citizens of Osun State who resisted intimidation, stood by their choices, and protected their votes at the polling units.
Tinubu Congratulates Governor Adeleke
President Bola Tinubu congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election after the August 2026 off-cycle governorship election. Pelumi Olajengbesi, a spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Organisation, said Tinubu personally called Adeleke to congratulate him on his victory.
Olajengbesi disclosed the information while speaking with journalists at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation centre in Osogbo, after Adeleke was declared the winner.
He said Tinubu personally called Adeleke to congratulate him, adding that the President deserved commendation for allowing the election to take place without interference.
Commendations to INEC
Many analysts and observers rated the performance of the Independent National Electoral Commission highly. The commission made significant progress in addressing its recurring logistical challenges, delivering materials to Registration Areas on time despite an initial setback caused by a court order requiring the inclusion of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate’s name.
INEC officials arrived at polling units as early as 7:30 am, and voting began at several locations by 8:30 am. The exercise was peaceful and orderly, and where problems arose, the INEC REC, Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola, acted promptly to resolve them.
The process was transparent, and when the State Collation Centre announced the final results, no disputes or objections arose.
INEC appears to be gradually rebuilding public trust in its ability to conduct credible elections. If these standards are sustained in the 2027 general election, Nigeria’s electoral process may be considered having matured.
Watching Their Votes
The recently concluded Osun State off-cycle election offered Nigerians important lessons. Many residents kept vigil, monitoring their votes through the ward, local government, and state collation stages. As collation continued, results and speculation flooded social media, with some trying to manipulate the outcome and change the winner.
This incident was another example of citizens insisting that their votes count. In Ota Efun, Olorunda, INEC officials arrived at a polling unit with an incomplete voter register. Voters at the centre refused to allow voting to begin until the full register was provided.
