Eighteen presidential candidates, including two women, will appear on the ballot in the 2027 elections. INEC released the candidate list over the weekend, confirming that four of Nigeria’s 22 registered political parties will not field presidential candidates.
The Secretary to the Commission, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, listing the candidates and their deputies being sponsored by 18 political parties.
The final list includes two women running for president and four for vice president, giving women just 16.6 percent representation in the presidential race. This underscores the continued dominance of men at the highest level of politics in Nigeria.
The full list of the presidential candidates and their running mates as well as their ages are as follows:
1. APC: Bola Tinubu (74) / Kashim Shettima (59)
2. ADC: Atiku Abubakar (79) / Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi (61)
3. NDC: Peter Gregory Obi (65) / Musa Mohammed Rabiu Kwankwaso (69)
4. LP: Sunday Chibuzo Okereke (43) / Hajja Bintu Konto (54)
5. PDP: Sandy Ojang Onor (60) / Umaru Babangida (61)
6. AA: Rufai Adekunle Omo-Aje / Shehu Hussaini
7. ADP: Aliyu Abbas-Bin / Chinazam Ike
8. APP: Kabiru Yusuf / Peace Egobia Ofordile
9. AAC: Omoyele Sowore / Haruna Garba Magashi

The two female candidates are Nkem Esther Okeke of the National Rescue Mission and Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori of the Nigeria Democratic Party. Okeke secured her party’s ticket at its national convention and presidential primary in Abuja on Friday, May 29, 2026. Okwori is the first woman to establish and register a political party in Nigeria.
The candidates’ range in age from 35 to 80 and hold qualifications from the First School Leaving Certificate, WAEC and NABTEB credentials to university degrees, including doctorates, among both presidential and vice-presidential nominees.
INEC had previously published the candidates’ credentials, sparking controversy after incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu omitted the primary and secondary schools he attended.
