Fact-Check: That APC Chieftain, Akin Ogunbiyi, Endorses Adeleke Ahead of Osun Poll, Is Misleading

Claim: A Facebook user claimed that All Progressives Congress chieftain Akin Ogunbiyi had endorsed Ademola Adeleke.

On 13th August, 2026, a Facebook user named Engr Abidex posted a comment claiming that Akin Ogunbiyi, an All Progressives Congress chieftain, has declared support for Ademola Adeleke.

His post has a picture of Ogunbiyi wearing a robe around his head, with the words “Accord Party” written boldly.

The comment reads “Akin Ogunbiyi, APC Osun West Senatorial Candidate, declares support for Adeleke, says his love for Accord is unwavering.”

We have noticed that this claim is widely circulating on social media, here and here.

This kind of claim is suspicious, especially at this time when the Osun State election is a day away. Therefore, NDRFactcheck is moving to check the authenticity of the claim.

Verification

NDRFactcheck using Google reverse image search, our researcher saw that the image dates back to 2022, when Akin Ogunbiyi was the governorship candidate of the Accord Party.

Also, our findings show that Akin Ogunbiyi is the current flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial Candidate from the Osun West District of the state.

Furthermore, on the 7th August, 2026, in a publication by Daily Trust, Ogunbiyi inaugurated a 100-member Election Monitoring and Mobilisation Committee in his hometown of Ile-Ogbo to support the governorship candidate of his party, APC.

Conclusion

The information circulating that Akin Ogunbiyi endorsed Ademola Adeleke is misleading.
