On the 13th of August 2026, during the grand rally of the Osun State governorship off-cycle election held in the state capital city of Osogbo, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, claimed he was referring to Chris Imumolen as the National Chairman of the Accord Party.
In his speech welcoming Imumolen, Akpabio described him as the party’s National Chairman and said he was present to endorse the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
In his words, “The national chairman, Professor Chris Imumolen of the Accord Party, and his national working committee have endorsed AMBO”.
He further stressed that “the Accord Party has thrown its support for AMBO, and the national chairman is here; the party doesn’t have any opposition.”
Also, Chris Imumolen said that “As the national chairman and his national working committee of the Accord Party, we have stepped down our support for Senator Ademola Adeleke and today we declare our support for AMBO, all Accord members go to the polling units to vote for AMBO”.
NDRFactcheck investigated the claim as part of its coverage of misinformation surrounding the Osun State off-cycle election.
