On August 12, 2026, a Facebook user named “Osun Platform” claimed that Accord Party candidate and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke had withdrawn from the race.

The post reads that “Governor Ademola Adeleke Withdraws from Osun 2026 Governorship Race, Urges Supporters to Stay at Home on Election Day.”

It further alleges that Adeleke has vowed to challenge the election process in court.

The post has drawn reactions from users, many of whom questioned its credibility in the comments.

Verification

Our researcher contacted the Special Assistant to the Governor on Digital Media, Mr. Oni Genga Lawrance, popularly known as Duke of Osun, by phone. He dismissed the claim as mischievous and laughable, saying an incumbent governor would not withdraw and urging the public to disregard it.

To further verify the claim, we searched reputable national media outlets in Nigeria but found no supporting report.

However, reports indicated that it was Ademola Adebayo, popularly known as FRYO and an unregistered PDP candidate, who withdrew and publicly endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Conclusion

The claim that Governor Adeleke has withdrawn from the Osun State governorship election is false.
