APC leaders from across Nigeria gathered in Osogbo to urge voters to support mainstream politics by electing Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji in the August 15 governorship election and to call for a peaceful and credible poll.
The event served as the grand finale of the AMBO campaign and coincided with the final day of open campaigning allowed under the Electoral Act and INEC regulations. The high-profile rally, a political gathering, was graced by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, representing President Bola Tinubu; Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Chairman of the APC; and Other Prominent party leaders in Osogbo, including the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma (Imo State), and most of the 31 Governors who are members of the APC, including Monday Okpebholo (Edo), Usman Ododo (Kogi), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Uba Sani (Kaduna) and AbdulRahman AbduRazaq (Kwara).
A major highlight at the rally was the presentation of the official party flag to Oyebamiji, solidifying their strategy to capture the state leadership in the upcoming weekend polls.
At the APC mega campaign rally in Osogbo, Senate President Godswill Akpabio urged voters to support the party of their choice freely, assuring residents that the federal government was committed to protecting democracy and preventing any group from harassing or intimidating citizens.
He charged the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, with the task of immediately transforming Osun State upon being elected. He highlighted the numerous potholes on his way from Ibadan to Osogbo. He also emphasised that President Tinubu is a democrat who will ensure a peaceful election, stating clearly, “Osun is going to have a very peaceful election. We don’t need violence; we are nonviolent.
APC leaders addressed voters in Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo, while some governors stressed the benefits of aligning Osun State with the federal government and mainstream Nigerian politics and stopping opposition politics.
Progressive Governors’ Forum Chairman AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State urged Osun to stay aligned with the federal government, citing initiatives such as Forest Guards to tackle banditry and terrorism. He said such alignment would help the state attract more federal funding, infrastructure projects, and economic opportunities.
The APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, said governance was serious business and promised an inclusive administration focused on transforming lives, stating, “There is no more dancing. I have a mandate with you, and that mandate is to touch the lives of the people of Osun”.
Other speakers included Governor Hope Uzodinma, Osun Gubernatorial Council Chairman Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt Hon Uche Kalu.
Osun political leaders who addressed the rally included Alhaji Isiaka Oyetola, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy; APC General Secretary Dr Ajibola Basiru; Chief Bisi Akande; and Dr Iyiola Omisore.
Most of the Speakers emphasised the issue of a peaceful, transparent and credible election. They assured the voters of their safety and that the APC is a party of peace.
