On the 9th of July, 2026, a Facebook user, Ogbeni Yakubu Atanda, posted a video of a collapsed electricity transformer as a result of heavy rainfall.
In this caption, he attributed the collapse to a substandard project done by the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration in Osun State.
The caption quote read, “You can’t separate Governor Adeleke and substandard project. No, you can not because it is not possible Just imagine this 🤣🤣”.

The profile of the user shows that he is a media expert, an online editor and a Facebook-verified user.
With the Osun State 2026 off-cycle governorship election scheduled for August 15, social media has become a tool for politicians, party supporters and other actors to spread misinformation that could damage opponents’ chances and influence voters.
The post drew 112 likes, 425 comments, and 15 reshares, and it attracted heavy criticism from Facebook users. Several commenters disputed the claim that the incident occurred in Osun State, while one identified the transformer’s location.
“Haaaaaa, ds is my area Bogije here in Ibeju Lekki LGA, Lagos, not Osun state”
Therefore, NDRFactcheck investigated to give accurate information; given the closeness of the election of the state, such claims have the potential to influence the public if left unverified.
Verification
NDRFactcheck conducted a Google image search using a screenshot from the video. A YouTube video showed that the transformer collapsed in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.
An online news publication also identified Bogije in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, as the location where the transformer collapsed.
Bogije is a rapidly developing suburban community located within the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area (LGA) of Lagos State. Situated along the major Lekki-Epe Expressway, it sits right in the corridor often referred to as the “New Lagos” due to its massive infrastructure and economic expansion.
NDRFactCheck established that the transformer collapse had no connection to Osun State. A July 3, 2026, report attributed to NAN said flooding affected several areas, including Bogije in Ibeju-Lekki, where a transformer collapsed.
Another video link to the damaged transformer on another Facebook account is attached, which also corroborates the location of the transformer washed away by the floods https://web.facebook.com/watch/?v=1338660411717970
Conclusion
NDRFactCheck confirms that the video of the washed-away transformer attributed to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s government is false and misleading.
