Heavy down pour threatened inauguration in some of the states of the federation, the stage collapsed in Kano state as the new governor, Abba Yusuf took his oath of office with a threat to probe his predecessor, but the expansive Tafawa Balewa Square was packed to the gills with dignitaries and heads of various parastatals to witness the inauguration of the re-elected governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The various inauguration venues were beautifully decorated for the ceremonies but the events were overshadowed by the swearing-in of the President in Abuja which took the attention of major broadcast channels. The Tafawa Balewa Square was decorated with the glitzy green white-green of the country, blended with the touch of the flags and banners bearing the sigil of the state which represented the values of the state.

Also present at the venue were the members of the state traditional council members of the state house of assembly, members of the state judiciary and the state commissioners, prominent members of the state, members of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, who were regally dressed in different attires showcasing the signs and logo of the political party.

The Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, decked in white agbada and traditional purple cap, and his deputy Obafemi Hamzat, while being sworn in by the chief judge of the state, Kazeem Alogba presented the document bearing the oath of office to commence the beginning of the second term of their administration. They both swore to govern the state without seeking personal gain. He also said that his administration would make accountability and transparency a cornerstone of government.

“I can assure you that our administration will continue to foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and participatory governance. We are confident, as we have always been, that even if you do not believe what we say, you will not disbelieve what we do, because it will be as clear as day”

Rejigging his promise to Lagos residents, Sanwo-Olu added to his plans to extend his performance scorecard to the youth, social inclusion, Gender Equality and the state’s welfare. It is in line with this resolve that I am pleased to announce that we are taking our THEMES governing agenda to the next level.

“T.H.E.M.E.S, as you already know, stands for Transportation and Traffic Management; Health and Environment; Education and Technology; Making Lagos State a 21st Century Megacity, Entertainment & Tourism; and Security & Governance Henceforth, it will be known as “T.H.E.M.E.S+”, the “plus” representing the incorporation of an intensified focus, in these next four years, on Social Inclusion, Gender Equality and Youth.

“In other words, we are strengthening and reinforcing THEMES with a ‘No One Left Behind’ philosophy. No one will be left behind on account of their social status, gender or age; we will design all our policies and programs to ensure that everyone is carried along and catered to.
