The National Assembly has postponed its scheduled resumption from January 26, by two weeks and will now resume plenary on Tuesday February 9, 2021.

The clerk to the National Assembly, Mr. Ojo Olatunde Amos made announcement to that effect in a statement at the weekend.

“This is to inform all distinguished senators and honourable members of the National Assembly that the resumption of plenary sessions earlier scheduled for Tuesday, 26th January 2021 is hereby rescheduled for Tuesday, February 9, 2021,” the statement read.

According to Amos, the postponement is to enable members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party to participate in the registration and revalidation of its membership, scheduled to commence on Monday, January 25.

Plenary sessions had been adjourned in December to allow the lawmakers observe the Christmas and New Year holidays.

But there has been a little confusion on the registration exercise. In an earlier statement signed by the Secretary of the Caretaker/National Convention Planning Committee of the party, Senator John Akpanudoedehe in Abuja, on Saturday, the exercise was announced to have been put on hold till further notice.

“We sincerely apologise on the postponement of the proposed All Progressives Congress party registration which was scheduled to take place on Monday 25th of January, 2021, now put on hold till further notice”

In another statement 24 hours later signed by the same person, it was confirmed that the registration exercise would go on as earlier scheduled.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated the membership registration, revalidation and update exercise remains on course and commences as scheduled on Monday, January 25, 2021.

A statement by the Secretary Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Senator James AkpanUdoedehe, said any counter statement on the exercise was fake and “highly mischievous”.

The statement reads: “A “NOTICE” in circulation and ascribed to the APC CECPC National Secretary, Sen. John J. AkpanUdoedeghe Ph.D. is fake and highly mischievous.

“The APC membership registration, revalidation and update exercise remains on course and commences as scheduled in the attached timetable.”

AkpanUdoedeghe had announced the CECPC has approved the constitution of State Membership Registration Committees for the Party’s nationwide membership registration, revalidation and update exercise.

This will be followed by a train-the-trainer workshop. Senator Akpanudoedehe had earlier stated that the party’s CECPC was fully prepared to conduct congresses at all levels, through a fair and transparent process of electing officials for its various organs.

This, he said, would culminate in the party’s national convention. The CECPC secretary added that the committee was working to create a member-centered party structure that would guarantee full participation of all and accord privileges to strengthen APC members’ trust, beliefs and engagements in all its activities.
