The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the final list of voters for the Anambra State governorship election on Saturday, November 8, 2025, and shared updates on political party registration in Nigeria.
After its meeting on September 4, INEC announced that 168,187 citizens registered as new voters during the Continuous Voter Registration from July 8 to 20 in Anambra’s 326 wards.
After reviewing claims, objections, and ABIS checks, the Commission removed 27,817 duplicate registrations. This resulted in 140,370 valid new registrants and 5,983 approved transfer applications, for a total of 146,353 additional voters.
With these additions, the state’s total registered voters now stand at 2,802,790, up from 2,656,437 before the CVR.
Breaking down the distribution by local government, Idemili North leads with 246,318 voters (8.79%), followed by Awka South with 216,611 (7.73%), and Ogbaru with 188,016 (6.71%). On the other hand, Dunukofia and Anambra West recorded the lowest figures with 83,580 (2.98%) and 71,332 (2.55%), respectively.
INEC assured that Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for new registrants, transfers, and replacements would be ready for collection ahead of the polls.
“We wish to assure new voters in Anambra State, as well as those who applied for transfer or replacement of their lost or damaged Permanent Voters’ Cards, that their cards will be ready for collection well ahead of the governorship election,” the Commission stated.
Updates on Political Party Registration
The Commission also disclosed that it has received 19 additional letters of intent from associations seeking registration as political parties, bringing the total number of applications to 171 as of September 3, 2025.
According to INEC, a shortlist of pre-qualified associations is being finalised, and recommendations from the review committee are under consideration. The Commission, however, raised concerns about irregularities affecting some applications.
“Some associations have changed their interim leadership following defections to other associations or even existing political parties, thereby delaying the process,” INEC cautioned.
“We wish to appeal to all the associations that submitted letters of intent to remain patient as we finalise the process. We also urge them to avoid frequent changes to their logos, acronyms and addresses or one association submitting multiple requests.”
The Commission reiterated its commitment to fairness and transparency in handling applications.
“We wish to reassure the associations that the Commission will treat all applications fairly while urging them to assist the process by remaining consistent,” it added.
With the Anambra governorship election just 63 days away, INEC stressed that it will continue to engage with Nigerians on its activities to ensure credibility and public confidence in the electoral process.
