The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun displaying the Preliminary Register of Voters (PRV) in Ekiti State, which is a step in preparing for the 2026 gubernatorial election. At the same time, INEC has released the final list of candidates for the upcoming 2026 Osun State gubernatorial election.

The electoral body, in a statement signed by the Ekiti State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Bunmi Omoseyindemi, said the display of the voters’ register, which will commence on Friday, March 6th, 2026, and end on March 12th, 2026, is aimed at allowing registered voters to verify their details, correct errors, and report cases of multiple registrations, under-age registration, or other irregularities before the final register is produced for the Ekiti poll scheduled for June 18, 2026.

According to the statement, the exercise is taking place across the 177 wards in Ekiti State, where the preliminary voters’ register is being displayed for public scrutiny for a specified period in line with provisions of the Electoral Act.

The commission encouraged residents and registered voters in the state to attend their designated registration centres in order to verify that their names, photographs, and other personal details are accurately recorded in the register.

The statement reads, “The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) hereby notifies the public, political parties, civil society organisations and other stakeholders that the Preliminary Register of Voters for Ekiti State will be displayed for public scrutiny, claims, and objections across the state.

“The display exercise will take place from Friday, 6th March, to Thursday, 12th March, 2026, in all designated centres across the 177 wards in Ekiti State.

“The purpose of the display is to enable members of the public to verify the details on the register and ensure its accuracy ahead of the forthcoming electoral activities in the state.

“During the exercise, the following will be attended to: verification of names and personal details on the register; correction of errors in names, dates of birth, and other particulars; claims by eligible voters whose names may have been omitted; and objections to ineligible persons whose names appear on the register, including cases of deceased persons or underage registrants.

“INEC therefore encourages all registered voters, political parties, and other stakeholders to actively participate in the exercise by visiting the display centres within their respective wards to confirm their details.

“The Commission reassures the people of Ekiti State of its commitment to maintaining a credible, transparent, and inclusive voters’ register as part of preparations for future electoral activities.”

Osun Gubernatorial Candidates’ List Excludes LP, PDP

Meanwhile, the electoral umpire has released the final list of candidates nominated by political parties for the upcoming governorship election in Osun State, which is scheduled to be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

The commission, in a statement released by INEC Public Relations Officer in Osun, Musa Olurode, on Thursday, said candidates from 14 political parties were cleared to participate in the election, adding that the list followed the conclusion of party primaries and the submission of candidates’ particulars in accordance with the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2026 Osun State gubernatorial election.

However, the released list did not include the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) or the Labour Party (LP).

According to the statement, the parties include Accord, Action Alliance, AA; African Action Congress, AAC; African Democratic Congress, ADC; Action Democratic Party, ADP; All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA; All Progressives Congress, APC; Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Peoples Party (APP), Boot Party (BP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Young Progressive Party (YPP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

Recall that INEC had earlier stated that it would only upload the names and particulars of candidates and their running mates for the Osun State Governorship Election of the fourteen (14) political parties that have successfully complied with the requirements of the commission within the stipulated time frame.

PDP and LP were excluded due to internal leadership disputes and contested primaries, leading the electoral commission to deny recognition.
