The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on residents of Abuja to use the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr to pray for Nigeria’s stability and sustained development, as Muslims mark the end of Ramadan.

Amid the 2026 Eid celebrations among Muslims within the six area councils of the FCT, the minister emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in nation-building, urging citizens to support efforts aimed at maintaining peace, orderliness and progress across the country.

“This occasion also offers us a unique opportunity to pray for our leaders and, indeed, our country, Nigeria, that we may continue to enjoy peace and progress,” he said.

The minister noted that the values of discipline, sacrifice, and reflection observed during Ramadan should translate into actions that promote national unity and good governance beyond the festive period.

“As we celebrate Eid al-Fitr, I urge you all to carry forward the values of compassion, forgiveness, and unity that Ramadan embodies,” he added.

Wike congratulated Muslim faithful in the FCT on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast, describing the period as one that fostered stronger social bonds and encouraged acts of generosity among residents.

He also commended the spirit of peaceful coexistence demonstrated during the holy month, noting that it reflects the kind of civic responsibility required to strengthen democratic values and social harmony.

“Within the FCT, it is reassuring to see Muslims sharing and caring for fellow Muslims and non-Muslims alike in the last 30 days,” he said.

He added that “Individuals and corporate organisations have, by their conduct during this holy month, demonstrated their commitment and cooperation towards maintaining Abuja’s pride of place as the centre of unity, peace and harmony in Nigeria.”

Looking ahead to increased political activities and participation in the country, the minister urged residents to remain law-abiding and peaceful, regardless of political, ethnic, or religious affiliations.

“I urge all residents, regardless of political affiliation, gender or tribe, to take a cue from the Muslim Ummah and maintain peaceful conduct throughout the year while praying for the FCT and the nation as a whole at this period,” he said.

He assured residents that security agencies were working to ensure a peaceful environment during and after the celebrations to ensure maximum protection of the residents.

“The security agencies are working around the clock to ensure that residents celebrate and enjoy the occasion in peace, tranquillity, and orderliness.”

The minister also reassured FCT residents of the administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property while intensifying efforts to position Abuja as a secure and globally competitive capital city.
