Claim: A viral post on WhatsApp, claiming Osun state teachers’ recruitment examination dates have been scheduled to come up on Wednesday 27th, and 28th March 2024.
Verdict: FALSE
Full Story :
On 16th February, 2024, The Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Senator (Dr.) Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke approved the immediate recruitment of teachers into Public Primary and Secondary Schools in the State.
The news, which was also published by Vanguard newspaper, stated that “The State Government had announced that Governor Ademola Adeleke approved the immediate recruitment of 5,000 teachers into the state teaching service”.
In the statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, the Ministry of Education, Murtala Jimoh warned applicants not to fall victim to fraud by buying hard copy forms.
Despite the warning, there have been messages circulating on social media, most especially WhatsApp, that the Osun State Government has announced the examination screening date for all applicants who applied.
See the screenshot of the messages below:
Thus, in a process where there is massive unemployment in the state and the government is trying to create jobs for the youth, misinformation and discrimination mustn’t be allowed to stand in the way of government’s effort. The NDR looked into the claim to help the unsuspecting members of the public to decipher the truth.
Verification:
To confirm if the information in circulation is true, we reached out to the office of the Governor through his Media Assistant, Oni Gbenga Lawrence.
In his response, the Media Assistant sent a message via the same WhatsApp platform, quoting the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education that the exam date had been determined but was not yet in the public domain.
In the sent message, the Permanent Secretary of Education emphasised that “all candidates will be contacted via email or SMS and not through WhatsApp messages”. See the screenshot of the response below:
Conclusion:
The viral WhatsApp message claiming that “the examination date for the recruitment into public primary and secondary schools in Osun State had been fixed for 27th and 28th March 2024” is not from the Ministry of Education or from the government of Osun State.
Hence, every applicant should kindly disregard the information and be on the lookout on their email and publications from the accredited newspapers in Nigeria for such information.
