An X page, @AdcNews_, created for the dissemination of African Democratic Congress-related information and news, was seen to have made a claim on the 12th of March, 2026, stating that the party has adopted Peter Obi and Aminu Tambuwal as its presidential candidates.
In the post, it was quoted as saying, “Breaking News. ADC has adopted Peter Obi and Tambuwal tickets.”
Attached to the post was a graphic design featuring Peter Obi as president and Tambuwal as vice president, with the African Action Congress logo.
Recall that in July 2025, some politicians announced plans to adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their new political platform to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Some of the politicians included the Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former House Speaker and ex-Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal.
However, despite adopting the party, they were not formally members until Peter Obi registered as a member on the 7th of March, 2026, at Agulu Ward 2 in Anaocha LGA of Anambra.
Also, in separate news, the former governor of Sokoto State and speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, switched parties to the newly adopted Africa Democratic Congress (ADC).
NDRFactcheck seeks to verify this claim because of its importance to the country’s democracy, especially the timeline of the electoral process for party primaries that select candidates in Nigeria.
As of the time of writing this report, the tweet has garnered 676 comments, 820 retweets, 3.6k likes, and 255.6k views, prompting other users in the comments to challenge the post as not true here, here, here, and here.

Verification
Our findings indicate that the page above is not the official X account of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and there is no such information on the party page.
In a telephone conversation with the Interim National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Dr Tanko Yinusua confirmed that the page is not affiliated with the party and that the claim is false.
We also conducted a keyword search on Google to see whether any reputable news organisation had reported it; we found none.
Conclusion
The claim that the African Democratic Congress has adopted Peter Obi and Aminu Tambuwal as its presidential candidates is false. The page X that posted it is not the party’s official account, and neither the party nor any credible news organisation has confirmed it. Therefore, the graphic and the post circulating online are misleading and should be disregarded.
