FULL STORY

An X user @ChinasaNworu made a post on the 5th of January 2025, indicating that the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that he single-handedly supported President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential ambition with the sum of ₦50 billion, adding that he cannot be used and dumped by the presidency.

“Just In;

“I Spent 50 Billion Naira to make Tinubu  the President he is today.

I Won’t Be Dumped just like that.”

~ Nyesom Wike Explodes”

 The post has since generated more than 34,000 views, 600 likes, and 420 reposts.

However, X user @ChinasaNworu did not reference a source for this claim, nor did they attach their evidence. This prompted NDRFactCheck to verify the claim.

A keyword Google search was conducted, and no results came up to support the claim. For a claim relating to the president and credited to the FCT Minister, major media platforms in the country are expected to publish it. A thorough search was also conducted on the minister’s social media pages, and no results were returned.

In Nigeria, political parties and candidates are not systematically monitored, making it difficult to determine the amount of contributions from sponsors to campaign funds. As a result, analysts have called for the establishment of an additional regulatory body, separate from INEC, to oversee and track the financial activities of political parties and actors.

NDRFactCheck reached out to the minister’s media assistant for further clarification.

Mr Wike’s SSA for Media, Lere Olayinka, denied the allegations, saying it is “fake.”

CONCLUSION

The claim is unproven, as no evidence shows that Minister Wike claimed he spent ₦50 billion to make Tinubu President.
