A WhatsApp user sent a flier of Nigeria Immigration Service Notice of 2024 General Replacement on the 5th of April, 2022.
The flier stated that the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has: “approved the commencement of the Nigeria Immigration Service 2024 replacement exercise.”
“Applications are hereby invited from qualified persons for full-time employment into the following positions:
“CATEGORY A: SUPERINTENDENT CADRE
CATEGORY B: INSPECTORATE CADRE
CATEGORY C: ASSISTANT CADRE”, it added.
The circular stated that the number of applicants required is 3,600, adding that interested persons should go through the portal, www.niscareer.com.ng to apply.

The WhatsApp user, without equivocation, further advised the recipients of the information that “Anyone that is interested should apply as soon as possible…Note the maximum age is 32 years…Endeavour to doctor the age if you are above 32 years of age by Doing another age declaration and backdate it…”
An X user on the 5th of April 2024, @Italian_Gbekis was seen commenting that a personal account is used. He was quoted “That’s the account number on the site. Hope this will help trace them”.
It is imperative to know that in a country where the unemployment rate is biting so hard, with the latest figure of 5.0 per cent in the third quarter of 2023, this makes citizens vulnerable and ready to take any job or employment offer that comes their way.
The Ministry of Interior, which is saddled with the oversight of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Police, and Nigeria Correctional Service, is often seen to have been controversial in terms of employment, especially the Nigeria Immigration Service.
In light of this occurrence, the NDR looked into the veracity of this circular for public enlightenment and caution.
Verification:
NDR Check quickly logged into the website link to do some personal registration to know if this is true. We clicked on the application link stated in the circular directs users to a webpage with a pop-up instruction. This can be seen in the screenshot below:
Screenshot of the interface immediately after it was clicked
We continued exploring the website and we were able to identify some red flags
Red flag 1:
It is well known that the Federal government and many states in Nigeria always conduct examinations or tests for their applicants in their recruitment processes. It was stated on the website that there would be no Pre-Selection or Computer Test to be conducted
Red flag 2:
It was also noticed that the security application of the site looks porous, it is a straightforward security setting, that didn’t refer to going to email to confirm registration before starting fully.
Red flag 3:
After signing up, we were redirected to this page, where would-be applicants are required to pay into a personal account. The researcher observed that this was not a regular commercial bank account and it also emerged that the perpetrator has multiple online bank accounts.
There were other revelations by using Google Reverse Image, we found out that this is not the first time this phishing website has been carrying out this fraudulent act.
We contacted the official website of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to see if there have been any disclaimers on this issue and if they were aware of the circulated information. Our investigation shows that on the 4th of April 2024, at about 12:25 pm in a Press Release: ‘NIGERIA IMMIGRATION SERVICE WARNS AGAINST FAKE RECRUITMENT ADVERTS’. The Nigeria Immigration Service vehemently dissociates itself from these illegitimate recruitment activities and urges the public to exercise caution. There is currently no ongoing recruitment process within the service.
Conclusion:
The website was subjected to phishing website analysis, which showed it to be authentic. And, the claim that Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is calling for applications for 2024 general replacement is FALSE.
