An X user, DGov, on 21st January, 2026, was seen to have claimed that the presidency has directed the governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, to keep to his one-time agreement and step aside for Honourable James Faleke, who is an indigene of Kogi State but serving as Honourable at the Federal House of Representatives, representing the people of Ikeja Federal Constituency in Lagos State.

The post which quotes, “Problem brew in Kogi APC as the Presidency directs Governor Ododo to honour one term agreement and be prepared to hand over to Tinubu core loyalist, Adeleke, after his tenure.”

Governor Ododo, a former auditor general of the state, emerged as governor after being endorsed by the immediate past governor, Yahaya Bello, during the last governorship election.

Similarly, Honourable Faleke, an indigene of Kogi State but currently representing Ikeja Federal Constituency in Lagos State at the House of Representatives, was also an aspirant in the Kogi governorship race. He later withdrew from the contest, citing national interest.

The claim has gained significant traction on social media, recording 114.1 views, 70 comments, 124 reposts, and 443 likes as of the time of this report. It surfaced amid early political bait ahead of the next Kogi State governorship election scheduled for next year.

We check out reputable media platforms for such a story to authenticate whether it is true. In a report made available by Television Continental (TVC) on 22nd January, 2026, the report refuted the claim and made it known that there is no discussion of such.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I state unequivocally that I never had any discussion, nor was I privy to any conversation, arrangement or agreement regarding a one-term deal in Kogi State or any related matter,”

For more proof in another publication, Dailypost, Hon. James Faleke has debunked the rumour that the presidency directed former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello and incumbent Governor Usman Ododo to uphold an alleged one-term agreement in the state.

According to him, “no discussion or agreement was ever held regarding a one-term deal in Kogi State or any related matter.”
