It was a glorious moment for Nigeria on Monday as the duo of Victor Osimhen and Asisat Osuala made the country proud on the African stage when they won the coveted prices of African Footballer of the year awards for both male and female categories. That is an unprecedented feat by Nigeria.

Victor Osimhen’s win puts an end to Nigeria’s long wait for the Africa Footballer of the Year award. He defeated the duo of Achraf Hakimi and Mohammed Salah to the title at the event which held in Morocco.

Osimhen was rewarded for his outstanding performance for Napoli last season, where he scored 26 times to propel his club to their first league title in 33 years. He was also the first African to win the top scorer award in the history of the Italian Serie A.

Victor James Osimhen MFR is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a striker for Serie A club Napoli and the Nigeria national team. Considered one of the best strikers in the world, as well as one of the best players in the world, he is known for his elite finishing, pace, strength and athleticism.

For Asisat Osuala that would be her sixth time of winning the African Women’s Player of the Year award. The 27-year-old played a key role in Barcelona’s UEFA Women’s Champions League success last season.

Oshoala also scored once in four appearances for Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The Barcelona star was crowned as the winner of the 2023 CAF Women’s Player of the Year ahead of South Africa’s Thembi Kgatlana to earn the feat.
