President Tinubu Nominates 28 Persons as Ministers, May Create New Ministries

Just at the nick of time, President Bola Tinubu, forwarded his list of 28 persons, twenty-five percent of them being women, four former governors, and two members of APC National Working Committee, to the Senate for screening and confirmation as Ministers to serve in his cabinet.

The list, a mixed-blend of technocrats, professionals and politicians, also reflect gender balance and parades a good number of young people. The list was contained in a letter read by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, at the plenary which was submitted to the Senate by the president’s Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, at about 1:19 p.m. He told also told journalists that the President may create new ministries from the existing ones.

“Mr President intends to separate portfolios or restructure the ministries in such a way you might be hearing of new ministries that were not standalone ministries before. So the process continues.’’ Gbajabiamila told the News Agency of Nigeria.

The four former governors on the list include ex-Kaduna state Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and ex-Rivers state Governor, Mr. Nyesom Wike, former Jigawa State governor, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar and former Ebonyi state governor and a serving Senator Dave Umahi.

The submission of ministerial nominees is in line with the constitutional provision stipulating that the president has from the date he is sworn in, a 60-day window to appoint ministers. The 28 names presented on Thursday constitutes the first batch of ministers. The President is expected to appoint about 14 more names. The constitution stipulates that every state must have a minister in the Federal Executive Council.

Apart from ex- Governor El-Rufai and ex- Governor Wike, other nominees include the former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) in Oyo State, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Prince Lateef Fagbemi, economist Mr. Olawale Edun and presidential spokesperson Mr. Dele Alake.

President Tinubu asked the Senate to screen and confirm his ministerial nominees. Other nominees include Abubakar Momoh from Edo state, Amb Yusuf Maitama Chuka, Abubakar Sani, Eperipe Egbor,. Others with their short biographies are:

Barr Hanatu Musa Musawa
She is an indigene of Katsina State of Nigeria.
She attended the University of Buckingham, United Kingdom where she studied law and obtained a degree thereof. After her first degree, Hannatu did her Postgraduate Masters Degree in the Legal Aspects of Marine Affairs. She also attended the Univerisity of Aberdeen, Scotland where she obtained a Postgraduate Masters Degree in Oil and Gas Law.

Hannatu is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, who has had a varied and rich working experience including working as a Litigation lawyer and legal advisor to private Companies and Federal Government of Nigeria. She has also held legal briefs that border on election petition matters.

Chief Uche Naji

He attended the University of Nigeria, Nsukka Campus, St. Patrick’s College in Emene, Enugu, and Santa Maria Primary School in Enugu (now Ziks Avenue Primary School). He was in a strong entrepreneurial position because of his early involvement in the hospital and medical installation and procurement industries. He gained from numerous contacts with much older senior executives, where he learned the value of patience and humility. He was the youngest and first African to have a CT scan for Nigeria in the middle of the 1980s. Nnaji was a Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress in the concluded 2023 general elections.

She was a former General Manager of Zenith Bank Plc. She hails from Oguta LGA of Imo State.

Ex-Gov David Umahi
Was born on 25 July 1963. He is a current senator representing Ebonyi South Senatorial District . He previously served as the governor of Ebonyi State from 2015 to 2023, and as deputy governor from 2011 to 2015

Ex- Gov Nyesom Wike
He was born on 13 December 1967. He is a Nigerian politician and lawyer who served as the governor of Rivers State from 2015 to 2023. He is an Ikwerre from Rumuepirikom in Obio-Akpor, Rivers State. He is a member of the People’s Democratic Party and was educated at Rivers State University of Science and Technology. He is a member of the Body of Benchers.

Mohammed Badaru Abubakar
Born on 19 September 1962. He is a Nigerian politician who served as governor of Jigawa State from 2015 to 2023. He is the Chairman, Presidential Committee on Fertilizer and also the Chairman, Presidential Committee on Non oil Revenue. And he is the owner of Talamiz group of industries.

Ex- Gov Nasir El-Rufai

He was born 16 February 1960. He is a Nigerian politician who served as governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023. He served as minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from 2003 to 2007. Mallam El-Rufai also served as Director of the Bureau of Public Enterprises. He is a co-founding member of the ruling party All Progressives Congress.

Nkiru Onyejocha
She was born 23 November 1969. She is a Nigerian politician and a ranking lawmaker in Nigeria’s Federal House of Representatives. She represents Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State.

Mrs Onyejocha is an active member of the Nigeria federal parliament and often contributes brilliantly to debates on critical national issues in the house. She has sponsored several bills and moved motions that have improved the lives of ordinary citizens and help safeguard their rights.

Olubunmi Tunji Ojo
He was born on 1 May 1982. He is a Nigerian politician, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is a member of the House of Representatives representing Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency of Ondo State. He was the Chairman of the House Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in the ninth Assembly. He is currently serving his second term in the National Assembly having been elected in March 2019 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC)

Uju Kenedy Ohaneye

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria(SAN) and Lead Counsel of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in all the court cases the party was involved in.

Mohammed Idris
He is popularly known as Mohammed Idris Malagi . Born May 2, 1966. He is a Nigerian publisher, public relations professional, and politician. He is the founder/chairman and publisher of Blueprint newspaper. He is also the chairman of Abuja based Kings Broadcasting Limited, owners of WE 106.5 FM Abuja, Nigeria.

He is the general secretary of Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria. He was the All Progressives Congress Tinubu-Shettima presidential campaign council director of strategic communications.

Olawale Edun
Olawale (Wale) Edun has a background in merchant banking, corporate finance, economics and international finance at both national and international levels. Mr. Edun is the Chair of Chapel Hill Denham Group, Lagos, a leading investment bank. He was an executive director of Lagos merchant bank, Investment Banking & Trust Company Limited, now Stanbic IBTC. Wale is the founder and Chair of Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame, a registered not for profit organisation that runs amateur boxing in Lagos in conjunction with the Lagos Amateur Boxing Association.

He is also the Chair of Livewell Initiative, a not for profit organisation that specialises in health literacy advocacy and practical training in Nigeria, and a Trustee of Sisters Unite for Children, a not for profit institution that focuses on helping street children in Lagos. Mr. Edun is the president of Repton, a long-established amateur boxing club based in London’s East End.

Waheed Adebayo Adelabu
He was born on 28 September 1970. He was a former deputy governor, operations of the Central Bank of Nigeria and 2019 Oyo State gubernatorial candidate for the All Progressives Congress. He contested the 2023 governorship election as the candidate of Accord Party.

Iman Suleiman Ibrahim
Iman Sulaiman-Ibrahim, is a Nigerian politician and businesswoman. She was the director-general of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP from 1 December 2020 till 27 May 2021, when the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari announced a swap and she was redeployed as the Honourable Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons.

Senator Abubakar Kyari

Senator Abubakar Kyari was born on the 1 January 1960 in Borno State. His father was Late Brigadier Abba Kyari – Former military administrator to North Central from 1967 to 1975. Senator John Enoh
Senator John Owan Enoh was the Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who represented Cross River Central Senatorial District between 2015 and 2019, under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He decamped to All Progressives Congress in May 2017 and became the party’s candidate for the Cross River gubernatorial elections of 2019.

Sen Sanni Abubakar Danladi
Abubakar Sani Danladi was born on May 20, 1967 in Bachama, Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State. He was a former acting governor and deputy governor of Taraba State and also a former Senator, representing Taraba North Senatorial Zone.

The Senate President ,however, referred the president’s request to the committee of a whole for consideration.
