Just at the nick of time, President Bola Tinubu, forwarded his list of 28 persons, twenty-five percent of them being women, four former governors, and two members of APC National Working Committee, to the Senate for screening and confirmation as Ministers to serve in his cabinet.
The list, a mixed-blend of technocrats, professionals and politicians, also reflect gender balance and parades a good number of young people. The list was contained in a letter read by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, at the plenary which was submitted to the Senate by the president’s Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, at about 1:19 p.m. He told also told journalists that the President may create new ministries from the existing ones.
“Mr President intends to separate portfolios or restructure the ministries in such a way you might be hearing of new ministries that were not standalone ministries before. So the process continues.’’ Gbajabiamila told the News Agency of Nigeria.
The four former governors on the list include ex-Kaduna state Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and ex-Rivers state Governor, Mr. Nyesom Wike, former Jigawa State governor, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar and former Ebonyi state governor and a serving Senator Dave Umahi.
The submission of ministerial nominees is in line with the constitutional provision stipulating that the president has from the date he is sworn in, a 60-day window to appoint ministers. The 28 names presented on Thursday constitutes the first batch of ministers. The President is expected to appoint about 14 more names. The constitution stipulates that every state must have a minister in the Federal Executive Council.
Apart from ex- Governor El-Rufai and ex- Governor Wike, other nominees include the former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) in Oyo State, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Prince Lateef Fagbemi, economist Mr. Olawale Edun and presidential spokesperson Mr. Dele Alake.
President Tinubu asked the Senate to screen and confirm his ministerial nominees. Other nominees include Abubakar Momoh from Edo state, Amb Yusuf Maitama Chuka, Abubakar Sani, Eperipe Egbor,. Others with their short biographies are:
Barr Hanatu Musa Musawa
She is an indigene of Katsina State of Nigeria.
She attended the University of Buckingham, United Kingdom where she studied law and obtained a degree thereof. After her first degree, Hannatu did her Postgraduate Masters Degree in the Legal Aspects of Marine Affairs. She also attended the Univerisity of Aberdeen, Scotland where she obtained a Postgraduate Masters Degree in Oil and Gas Law.
Hannatu is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, who has had a varied and rich working experience including working as a Litigation lawyer and legal advisor to private Companies and Federal Government of Nigeria. She has also held legal briefs that border on election petition matters.

He attended the University of Nigeria, Nsukka Campus, St. Patrick’s College in Emene, Enugu, and Santa Maria Primary School in Enugu (now Ziks Avenue Primary School). Ex- Gov Nasir El-Rufai
He was born 16 February 1960. He is a Nigerian politician who served as governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023. He served as minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from 2003 to 2007. Mallam El-Rufai also served as Director of the Bureau of Public Enterprises. He is a co-founding member of the ruling party All Progressives Congress.
