The intensive lobbying for the number two position in Ondo State came to a halt six hours after the dissolution of the Ondo State Executive Council, when Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa nominated and forwarded the name of former Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, Chief Olayide Owolabi Adelami, as deputy governor to the State House of Assembly for ratification.
Chief Adelami, a former governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress in 2020 hails from Owo in the Northern Senatorial district of the state. He is a kingsman of late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN.
The deputy governor nominee retired from the National Assembly in April 2018.
The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan, confirmed the nomination of the deputy governor.
Six hours before the governor forwarded the name of the deputy governor to the House of Assembly, Governor Aiyedatiwa, dissolved the State Executive Council (SEC) with immediate effect.
In a terse statement issued in Akure and signed by Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor on Wednesday directed all members of the Cabinet to immediately hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior administrative officers in their respective offices.
“Also, all Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Special Assistants (SAs) are relieved of their duties, with immediate effect”, the statement said.
The statement said all the affected officials are directed to hand over all government properties in their possession.
The Governor, however, thanked the affected officials for their services and contributions to the development of the State.
