The Lagos Independent National Electoral Commission has disclosed that over 5 million Permanent Voters Cards have been distributed to the registrants since the beginning of the PVCs distribution in the state, noting that an average of 14,000 people collect their voters card daily. The window for PVC opened on December 12, 2022, and will end on January 22, 2023.

Throwing more light on the ongoing PVC collection exercise, INEC Head of Voters Education and Publicity in Lagos state, Ms. Adenike Tadeshe said that the commission distributes an average of 14,000 Permanent Voters Cards daily from their local government offices.

She also added that there is a mass collection of the Permanent Voters Cards across the state by people who registered long before the Continuous Voters Registration last year and the fresh registrants.

“Let me enlighten our people that INEC in Lagos state, and even Nationwide, we have been giving out voter cards to eligible registrants, we call it a collection of PVCs. the PVCs are in two categories, we have the old PVCs and the new PVCs. The old PVCs in the sense that we have people that registered in 2011, and 2012 via the election in 2019. For those people that registered, we have a lot of their cards we have collected from the national headquarters officially in Abuja because we do not print PVCs at the state level. For the old ones we collected 6, 570, 291 and as at 29th December so far the cards collected are 5,653, 330. Meaning the old cards we still have in our custody are 916,961, those are the old ones.

Now, when we say the new ones, those are the ones that registered during the Continous Voters Registrations (CVR) exercise, we collected 7,510, 491 from the headquarters and we have the number of uncollected PVCs 777,022. When we now look at the total overall PVC collected, both old and new it is 7, 510, 491. So as at 29th of December, 5, 816, 528 have been collected. Meaning we still have 1, 693, 963 uncollected. But we want to tell our people that people are coming out and on a daily basis, the PVCS they collect is over 14,000 per day. And as we speak now, the cards at our various local government

She further noted that the commission will soon extend the distribution of the cards will soon be taken to different wards starting from January 15th and 16th, 2023.
