NDRFactcheck analysis of the Newspaper Publication
Our researcher first confirmed whether a newspaper called The Nigerian Observer exists; we established that it does.
After carefully examining the newspaper’s front-page format, we found that the layout differs: the original copy doesn’t have the nameplate at the top.
It was also found that the newspaper’s tagline is “That the People May Know”, not “Truth, Balance and Progress”.

Further searches of credible news sources found no reports that Atiku was ill or abroad for treatment. The only relevant results were a 2023 SaharaReporters story and subsequent denials.
The post also names no sources, relying only on unverifiable terms such as “reportedly” and “sources.”
The story’s nameplate is dated 27 October 2025, while the tweet was posted on 25 October 2026.

The story identifies Atiku Abubakar as the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, although he is currently the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate.
Conclusion
NDRFactcheck’s investigation found the headline to be AI-generated and false, as no such publication exists. It appears intended to cause alarm and embarrass Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and there is no evidence that he is terminally ill.
