Claim: An X user, @OOlusore, shared a post claiming that Oyo State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Oba Barr. Sharafadeen Alli, PhD, has endorsed the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) for the 2027 general elections.

Background Story
Days after Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Sharafadeen Alli, the APC governorship candidate in the state, exchanged criticisms over their professional credentials and public service records ahead of the 2027 governorship election, a social media post claimed that Alli had endorsed the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) for the 2027 general elections.
In May 2026, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement.
The post was accompanied by a video showing Alli and other APC members at an event where he was heard mentioning “APM” more than twice.
The event was the launch of the Alao-Akala Transformation Movement (ATM), not the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM).
The Viral Video
At face value, the video seemed to support the claim because Alli repeatedly used the acronym “APM” while addressing the gathering. However, he was attending the launch of the Alao-Akala Transformation Movement (ATM). See screenshot below:

As of the time of this investigation, the viral post has gained traction on social media, recording more than 115,000 views and several reactions.
While a commenter, @TheAjiletente tagged the video as an AI-generated piece, another person, @Atereincome attributed the alleged endorsement to an acceptance of early defeat, saying, “He has accepted defeat before the elections even come.”
However, NDRFactCheck found the claim to be misleading. The confusion is significant because APM and ATM are different organisations. The APM is a political party, while ATM refers to the Alao-Akala Transformation Movement.
Verification
NDRFactCheck found no credible evidence in mainstream media reports or official statements that Alli had endorsed the Allied Peoples’ Movement or its candidate for the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.
Although several social media accounts shared the claim, including this Facebook post, this Instagram post and this Instagram video, the posts did not provide evidence of a formal endorsement.
A report by Bow A Media said that Alli was involved in the viral incident at the launch of the Alao-Akala Transformation Movement (ATM) in Ogbomoso on August 14, 2026, where he was heard saying “APM” instead of “ATM.”
Another report confirmed that the ATM launch was attended by an APC delegation led by Alli and his running mate, Honourable Adesoji Michael Adedeji.
Further reporting indicated that a political group supporting the APM candidate subsequently described Alli’s repeated use of “APM” as a gaffe, rather than evidence of an endorsement of the APM or its candidate.
What NDRFactCheck Knows
Sharafadeen Alli is the APC governorship candidate for Oyo State in the 2027 election. Channels Television reported his formal unveiling by the Oyo State APC in July 2026.
His official campaign website also identifies him as the APC candidate and features campaign activities conducted under the APC platform.
There is also subsequent evidence that Alli’s political organisation continued to distinguish his candidacy from that of the APM.
On September 13, 2026, Alli’s campaign organisation referred to Bimbo Adekanmbi as the APM governorship candidate in a report published by The Guardian, contrasting Adekanmbi’s candidacy with Alli’s APC candidacy.
Similarly, on September 21, 2026, Governor Seyi Makinde referred to Alli as the APC candidate and Bimbo Adekanmbi as the APM candidate while commenting on the 2027 governorship contest.
These subsequent statements are inconsistent with the interpretation that Alli had formally endorsed the APM.
The viral video accurately captures Sharafadeen Alli repeatedly saying “APM” at an event organised by the Alao-Akala Transformation Movement (ATM). However, the available evidence does not establish that he was formally endorsing the Allied Peoples’ Movement or its candidate.
Rather, the evidence shows that the event was the launch of ATM and that Alli remained the APC governorship candidate for Oyo State.
Therefore, the claim that Sharafadeen Alli endorsed the APM for the 2027 general elections is MISLEADING.
