NDRFactcheck came across a viral video of the governor of Osun State granting an interview with a television station, allegedly with Channel Television, due to its logo icon found attached to the top corner.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, now aligned with the Accord Party ahead of the forthcoming Osun governorship election, was seen claiming that his administration has hired over 5000 teachers. The video was posted by a Facebook user asking if the governor truly hired this number of teachers.
Before Governor Ademola Adeleke assumed office in November 2022, the former Governor of Osun State, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, had recruited 2,500 teachers in the Osun State education sector when he was about to leave office.
Immediately assuming office, Governor Ademola Adeleke reviewed the appointments made under the previous government, which led to political disagreements between his former party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition APC over teachers’ employment and education policy.
Against this backdrop, the Adeleke administration announced a fresh recruitment of 5000 teachers aimed at addressing staffing shortages in public schools.
As the Osun State off-cycle election approaches, politicians and their supporters often use misinformation to target opponents. Since this claim concerns a governor seeking a second term, it is important to verify its accuracy.
Verification
To verify whether Governor Ademola Adeleke made the claim, our fact-checker captured a frame from the video and ran a Google reverse image search. The findings are as follows:
Firstly, it was revealed that the video was an old video interview called “Political Paradigm” granted by Governor Ademola Adeleke with Channel Television on 4th February 2025.
He made the claim in the interview, at about 49 minutes 40 seconds, as it is in the video; he said that his government has hired over 5000 teachers in the state.
We researched to know if there was recruitment of that number before and after his interview: official records from the Osun State Government show that the State Executive Council approved the recruitment of 5,000 teachers and 250 education officers in February 2024, days after he granted the interview on Channel Television.
Were all 5,000 Teachers Recruited?
Investigation shows that on the 6th of March, 2026, the Osun State government announced the release of five hundred and twenty-six (526) names of the first batch of successful applicants contained in a PDF file for both public and secondary school teachers in the state, which was signed by the commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment.
We also found that on 22 March 2026, the official X handle of the Osun State Government published a supplementary list to the first batch, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mr M.A.K. Jimoh. The list was divided into two sections: the first contained 123 names and the second 176. Together with the first batch, this brings the total number of recruited teachers confirmed in official Osun State government documents to 806.
Conclusion
Our investigation found that although Governor Ademola Adeleke did say his administration hired over 5,000 teachers, publicly available Osun State Government records do not support that claim. While the government approved the recruitment of 5,000 teachers in 2024, current official records confirm only 806 successful applicants. Therefore, the claim that the administration hired over 5,000 teachers is false.
