It was jubilation galore from the premises of the Supreme Court in Abuja down to the Rivers State Secretariat, where supporters and sympathisers of embattled Governor Siminalayi Fubara trooped to the streets in jubilation for his victory affirmed by the Supreme Court on Thursday.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara has welcomed the Supreme Court judgement saying that the apex court has ended the distraction to his administration. He stated that his victory at the Supreme Court is refreshing and will further encourage him to proceed with governance.
The governor commended President Tinubu for his roles in resolving the political impasse in the state and in the litigation. He also appreciated the role of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory who was the governor of the state, Nysome Wike, whom he described as “my Oga”.
“It is important for us to note that we need this victory to consolidate the purpose of governance. Prior, we have had a few distractions here and there. And the good news that came to us this morning is a refreshing strength that will encourage us to continue the good works in governance.”
“I want to commend the President for his fatherly role on every issue that is concerning our state, not just the crisis and also this particular litigation that we just overcome. It will also be unfair for me not to appreciate the minister my oga, i want to say thank you for the support.
“We have a dream of making it a highly competitive state that will measure, if not up to Lagos but close to becoming like Lagos. We can only achieve this in an atmosphere of peace.
“So I am calling on everyone, not just on our internal issue but those members from other parties, the issue is settled, come and let’s build the Rivers State of our dream.
“We will continue to protect and provide the basic needs of governance to everyone who is doing business and who lives in Rivers State. We will address our state very soon on the victory, but for now, let everybody be happy that one elephant is out of the road, the other one, by God’s help, will be resolved amicably and the family will be one”, he said.
In a statement on behalf of the governor by his Boniface Onyedi, his Senior Special Assistant media, Governor Fubara said the governor called on everyone to join hands with his administration to build a competitive State that will be reckoned with as truly prosperous in all ramifications.
He quoted the governor as saying: “We have a dream of making it a highly competitive State that will measure, if not up to Lagos but close to becoming like Lagos. We can only achieve this in an atmosphere of peace.
“So I am calling on everyone, not just on our internal issue but those members from other parties, the issue is settled, come and let’s build the Rivers State of our dream.

PDP Celebrates Governors Victories
Reacting to the Supreme Court judgement, the Peoples Democratic Party congratulated Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his counterpart, the Taraba state Governor who both were affirmed as their state state Governors today.
The party, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba stated that the Supreme Court judgement resonated with the will of the people of Rivers and Taraba states which they expressed during the election.
Additionally, Mr. Ologunagba pleaded with the winners to make the most of their chance to promote harmony and take the required actions to advance their State in a way that promotes inclusivity and unity for the benefit of all citizens.
According to the PDP spokesperson, the two governors have delivered people-oriented projects that are in line with party policy, such as infrastructure and citizen empowerment programs.
The statement reads “The verdicts of the Supreme Court, the highest court in the land come as further resonating victory for Democracy and the expressed will of the people of Rivers and Taraba States in their unbending resolve to sustain purposeful leadership in the States on the platform of the PDP.
“The excitement by Nigerians especially in Rivers and Taraba States at the news of the judgments reverberates as undisputed testimony that the decision of Supreme Court is in line with the democratic verdict of the people as expressed at the polls.
“The PDP is proud of Governors Similanayi Fubara and Kefas Agbu for their excellent performances since assumption of office on May 29, 2023 especially in hitting the ground running in the delivery of people-oriented infrastructural and citizen empowerment programmes and projects in line with the policy thrust, vision and manifesto of the PDP.
“Our Party urges Governor Fubara and political stakeholders in Rivers State to use the opportunity of the Judgment to foster peace and take necessary steps to move their State forward in an atmosphere of unity and inclusiveness in the overall interest of the people.
“The Party commends and appreciates the people of Rivers and Taraba States for their unwavering support for the PDP, urging them to continue in that spirit in their quest to maintain good governance in their States”
